Citi Brand Book

This brand book was prepared to introduce the “One Citi” brand concept to the numerous and varied lines of business for international banking giant, Citi. The book is perfect bound with many examples of logos, wordmarks, relevant images, color palettes, and typography in the Citi system. My role in this project was production of flawless press-ready digital files from approved design files prepared by the design team at Landor Associates, a renowned international branding agency in San Francisco. Additionally, I prepared logos, wordmarks, brand guidelines, stationery systems, InDesign stationery... Read→

Chevron Logo Redesign

In this project, I helped produce simplified versions of complex 3-D vector logos in order to ensure more predicable, consistent and accurate color output across press and desktop output devices around the world. Unnecessary masks were eliminated. Gradients were positioned in-place in the triangle and trapezoidal shapes. The gradient mesh highlight on each ribbon was simplified. This art was produced in flat spot backgrounds with gradient overprints, in addition to the four-color process versions displayed. One-color blue and one-color black versions were produced for limited use in one-color... Read→

Blackjack Madness Invitation

I designed and produced this oversized event invitation for the largest annual blackjack invitational at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The event invitation is a three-panel, c-fold, three-color job measuring 10” wide by 10” high. A matching full-bleed, oversized, non-standard envelope completed the effect for a dramatic impact when it was received by the select MGM MIRAGE Players Club members invited to the annual invitational. Eric Clapton Concert Invitation

I designed and produced the invitation for rock-and-roll legend Eric Clapton’s 2007 concert at the MGM Grand Garden Arena promoting his recent album “The Road to Escondido.” MGM Grand requested a high-end piece with a teaser out front followed by a dramatic reveal on the inside. I worked with the provided admat supplemented with additional source art, including sheet music from one of Eric Clapton’s earlier compositions. The invitation is a 2-color piece accented with foil and a dramatic die line used to reveal the guitar on the inside spread when viewed from the front. The full impact... Read→

Billboard Music Awards Invitation

I designed and produced the invitation for the 2006 Billboard Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena while working in-house as a Graphic Designer at Las Vegas gaming, hospitality, and entertainment giant MGM MIRAGE, the parent company of MGM Grand, Bellagio, the Mirage, and other famous international destinations. This high-profile, much-sought-after invitation combined photography and line art to create an energetic, electric front-side presentation followed by a dramatic reveal across the inside spread. The complex mask complemented the Billboard web site at the time. AKPC_IDS += "256,";Popularity:... Read→

California Missions Documentary

This is a non-sequential multimedia web documentary inspired by the annual project completed by all California sixth-graders studying California history. Using cited research material, the project displays beautiful photographs and a brief history of each of California’s 21 missions. In order to fit the format, the coastline of California is turned 90 degrees on its side. Each of the missions is identified by a star button which loads the content and images into the center movie holders. El Camino Real, identified by the brown trail, is also a hidden button that loads information about California’s... Read→

Buffalo in San Francisco?

There are many interesting and unexpected sights in San Francisco. In fact, the local economy practically depends on starry-eyed visitors coming from around the world to gawk at and photograph our local sights and frights. Our spectacular geography, famous... Read→

Yerba Buena Cove

This weekend I am moving to a new home in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. I have never lived in this area before, so this evening I was doing some basic Internet research to learn about the history of the neighborhood. I discovered that... Read→

I’ve been meaning to do a post about this for 2 months, ever since President Bush was caught off guard at a news conference about the cost of gas. Astonishingly, in San Francisco, where gas is often the highest price nationally, $4-a-gallon gas is now considered a BARGAIN. Prices stalled in the $3.90+ range for several weeks before finally surging into the mid $4+ range over the past several weeks. I took the picture at left today in nearby San Mateo. For any of us wondering about the domestic... Read→

I’m excited to announce that I have started training through the National AIDS Marathon Training Program to run in the San Francisco Marathon on August 3, 2008. It’s an issue close to my heart. I have lost many friends to the disease over the course of the pandemic. I am running in their memory and to make a contribution to my community, which has suffered tremendous losses. Please join me with your support for this worthy cause by clicking the yellow button below to go to my fundraising page.... Read→

During our holiday visit to Lake Tahoe, we boarded our cat at a local facility specializing in the care of temporarily homeless kitties. After arriving at our destination, we called to check in to see how he was doing. We were promptly informed that he had given one of the caretakers a severe bite. She was the same one who diminished our concerns when we dropped him off telling us that in 15 years of taking care of cats, she’d seen it all. Apparently not, as she missed three days of work and had... Read→

This year will be my first White Christmas since 1984, just before I moved to California. This time I have the luxury of a California White Christmas with my partner, Jim. We left San Francisco this morning, crossed the Bay Bridge and headed across the state to South Lake Tahoe, just a few miles from the Nevada State Line. We traveled through San Francisco, the East Bay, the Sacramento Delta, the Central Valley, Gold Country into the Sierra Nevada mountains cresting at over 7000 feet before descending... Read→
